Jeff Hmara
Mayor
Mayor Jeff Hmara is currently serving his seventh term on the Village of Royal Palm Beach Council. He has also served as President of the Palm Beach County League of Cities, Chairman of the Treasurer Coast Regional Planning Council, President of the Rotary Club of Royal Palm Beach, and Chairman of Mission United, Palm Beach County United Way.
Mayor Hmara retired at the rank of Colonel after serving 26 years in the US Army. He is a Vietnam War Veteran-Combat Commander, was a Project Manager for development of several major military systems and served in the White House Military Office. Mayor Hmara has received the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Army Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and other military awards.
After retiring from the Army, Mayor Hmara served as a Senior Executive with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Federal Aviation Administration. He has also worked as an adjunct professor at Palm Beach Atlantic University teaching Leadership, Management and Economics.
Mayor Hmara received his M.S. in Acquisition and Contracts Management from Florida Institute of Technology and his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from The Citadel. He also attended the Army War College, Command and General Staff College and Defense Systems Management College.
Mayor Hmara was born in Rahway, New Jersey and has been happily married to Carolyn (Leaphart) Hmara for 56 years. They have two children Sharon and Michael and six grandchildren, all of whom, they are extremely proud.
